First Grade

Each first grade class comes to the Computer Lab one period per week.  Mrs. Cox’s class comes on Tuesday, Mrs. Palmer’s class comes on Monday, and Mrs. Crump’s class comes to the lab on Thursday.

First grade works through our technology curriculum, TechKnowledge.  This curriculum includes the following units of study:

ü    Computer Basics

ü    Keyboarding

ü    Word Processing (mirrors Microsoft Word)

ü    Drawing and Graphics (mirrors Microsoft Paint)

ü    Gadgets

ü    Presentation (mirrors Microsoft PowerPoint)

ü    Spreadsheet (mirrors Microsoft Excel)

ü    Database (mirrors Microsoft Access)

ü    Electronic Reference

ü    Internet

In addition to TechKnowledge, students will work extensively in Microsoft Word applications so that they will become proficient in creating, editing and publishing documents.  This will be an emphasized curriculum area for 1st and 2nd graders in the computer lab this year.

Students will also explore a variety of programs which will increase their computer skills, as well as practice skills they are learning in their classrooms.
