Spanish III

2007-2008

 

Course Overview:

 

Spanish III is a course that offers thought-provoking themes that integrate rich vocabulary and a thorough presentation of grammar.  Activities within this course combine communication, culture and cross-curricular content with authentic literature and poetry.

 

First Nine Weeks

 

Para Empezar-Chapter 1

In Para Empezar the student will review daily routines including school life, weekend activities, celebrations and special events.  Through the first chapter the student will then learn about hiking, weather, athletic and academic competitions, awards and ceremonies.

 

The grammar objectives in this first section are:  preterite verbs, the imperfect and the use of the imperfect.  Cultural perspectives will reflect family outings.

 

 

Second Nine Weeks

 

Chapter 2 and 3

In the second chapter the student will talk about the arts, describe how people express themselves, narrate events in the past.  In the third chapter symptoms and remedies are learned as well as how to give advice about health and nutrition, express feelings  under certain circumstances, and how to tell others what to do.  Culturally, the student will focus on music, dance and art, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

 

Grammar objectives include preterite vs. imperfect, estar and participle, ser and estar, affirmative and negative commands, as well as regular and irregular subjunctive verbs.

 

 

Third Nine Weeks

 

Chapter 4 and 5

The fourth chapter discusses relationships between friends and family members, it will focus on maintaining relationships and conflict resolution.  The fifth chapter deals with careers, skills, and community volunteerism.

 

Grammar focuses include the subjunctive verb forms, the uses of por and para, nosotros commands, and possessive pronouns.  It will also include the present perfect tense, and demonstrative adjectives.

 

Fourth Nine Weeks

 

Chapter 6 and 7

These chapters cover careers and professions, future plans, science and technology.  We will also discuss archeology, natural phenomena, and myths and legends from around the world.

 

Grammatical attention will be given to the future tense, direct and indirect compliments, expressions of doubt and adjective clauses.
