Pre AP ENGLISH 1

 

 

 

                                             

 

COURSE OUTLINE

 

The student will learn the basics of writing good sentences.  The student will also be exposed to several types of literature and will be expected to respond to the readings in a variety of ways including discussion, essay, short answer, and objective testing.   The student will also be exposed to the fundamentals of listening and public speaking as well as elements of drama, and film critique.

 

Additionally, as a Pre AP student, you will be expected to develop reading, writing, and analysis skills beyond the normal English 1 essential knowledge and skills.  To that end, the Pre AP student will turn in a 500 word essay each week in response to a current event or story chosen by the instructor.   The student will be expected to be able to discuss their research/opinions about the chosen topic in class.  Other assignments may be given as opportunity or need arises.

The ultimate goal of the Pre AP classes is to prepare the student to take and pass the AP exam in their Senior year of High School
