Senate Bill 9 & House Bill 1525
Senate Bill (SB 9) requires public schools to provide instruction to students relating to the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking. SB 9 also requires public schools to obtain parent/guardian consent for students to receive this instruction.
Guidance from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and approval by the WCISD School Board is required for the curriculum that will be used to teach each of these topics as well as determining the grade level(s) that will receive instruction on each of these topics.
Before a student may be provided with instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking, SB 9 requires that Wolfe City ISD obtain written consent from the student’s parent/guardian.
Without written consent from a parent/guardian, students will not receive instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence, or sex trafficking.

Parents/guardians have the right to preview the curricula at any time and may request to review curriculum materials in advance of instruction. Preview materials will be available online as well.
According to Texas House Bill 1525, students receive instruction relating to human sexuality. Wolfe City ISD with guidance from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) makes recommendations for curriculum materials and the school board adopts the materials.

Youth Equipped to Succeed (YES) - Programs for Grades 4-12
In accordance with state law, we have partnered with Youth Equipped to Succeed (YES) to provide programs for students in grades 4-12 with age-appropriate information on relationships and human sexuality. While providing research-based information on topics such as puberty, anatomy, and peer pressure, these programs focus on the health benefits of waiting for sexual activity.
Students may not participate in these programs without written consent from their parents/guardians.

Fight! Child Abuse
In accordance with state law, WCISD will be using fightchildabuse.org to provide lessons and activities for students in grades K-3rd with age-appropriate information on child abuse and family violence.
Students may not participate in these lessons without written consent from their parents/guardians.
